C’mon, by now I’m sure you have at least one friend who’s gone Paleo.

You’re probably seeing and hearing it everywhere, and you’re probably worried that it’s just another “healthy” trend. Am I close?

Well, I’m here to tell you that Paleo is here to stay. So let’s discuss what it’s all about and why you should consider giving it a try.

What is the Paleo Diet anyway?

Paleo is actually pretty simple: If a caveman didn’t eat it, then you shouldn’t eat it. Paleo is based around the idea that we should be eating only whole, nourishing foods that would have been hunted or gathered during the Paleolithic era.

Still with me?

Nowadays, our foods are packed with preservatives, chemicals, sugars, sodium, and lord-knows-what-else. A Paleo diet cuts out all of that, along with other things proven to cause inflammation in the body, like gluten, grains, and dairy. Sorry, cheese and pasta lovers.

Now that you know the basic idea behind Paleo, here are a few more reasons you should try going Paleo:

  1. It’s SIMPLE: There’s this rumor going around that it’s hard to stay Paleo. Not true! A Paleo diet is loaded with meat, fish, veggies, and fruits. This means staying away from highly processed foods as well as your beloved pastas, breads, and cheeses. Staying away from your guilty pleasures is hard, but finding Paleo-friendly foods is easy. I mean really, what’s simpler than meat and veggies?

  2. It Nourishes Your Body from the Inside Out: When you’re feeding your body fresh, whole, healthy foods, you are bound to feel the difference. By eliminating processed or inflammatory foods, your body is better able to function since it doesn’t have to work as hard to break down what you put into it. When you feed your body the way it was meant to be fed, it allows your body to function and repair itself more effectively. You’ll also begin to see increased energy, as well as improved focus and memory.

  3. You’ll Be the Best You: Okay, I know that sounds a little corny, but it’s true. You’re only putting things in your body that it was meant to eat. You’re learning about where your food comes from. You’re avoiding inflammatory foods that have been proven to cause allergic reactions in some people. You’re detoxifying your body of harmful substances. You’re more in touch with your body and the world around you. You’re treating your body like a temple and giving it a little TLC. You’re probably stronger and healthier and have a ton more energy. Try Paleo, and you’ll be on the path to a better you, both inside and out.

  4. You’ll Develop a Better Relationship with Your Food and the Planet: When’s the last time you thought about where your food comes from? Eating free-range, organic foods will force you to learn more about how your food is produced. Local foods and ethically-raised meats just might make you more familiar with your local farmers’ market or butcher. When you support better farming practices, you support the planet. And since Paleo encourages the use of the entire animal when it comes to meat, you reduce waste. When you go Paleo, everybody wins!
