What is live food anyway?

No, I don’t mean your food should have a pulse when you eat it. What I’m talking about is whole, unprocessed food in its natural state. Live foods have no additives and they don’t come in a box or a bag. Things like raw, uncooked fruits and vegetables, and sprouted grains, nuts and seed are all examples of live foods.

That’s pretty simple right?

Here’s the thing: These uncooked foods have a ton of vitamins, minerals, enzymes, and phytonutrients that are altered or destroyed during the cooking process. When you cook these nourishing, nutritious foods, they become less nutritious and nourishing. Keeping them in their natural state ensures that you will get the maximum nutrients from it.

Eating whole foods means more bang for your buck.

Another reason for consuming more of these whole, live foods is that our bodies are designed to break these foods down. Since these foods are easier to break down, they’re easier to digest, and it’s easier for your body to utilize it for its normal functions.

Let’s be real here: cavemen weren’t eating cereal and medium-rare ribeyes. Heck, early humans didn’t even start off eating meat. Fun Fact: as humans began to eat animal protein, they required more teeth to bite through it, and that’s how we’ve evolved to have wisdom teeth.

Now that we have access to processed foods and meats, we are constantly taxing our bodies with the task of breaking down these foods. Since these foods are much harder for our bodies to break down and absorb, it causes stress on our natural processes, often leading to health issues like digestive problems, inflammation, overactive immune system, etc.

When you move towards a diet that includes more whole foods, your body is able to absorb them easier and more efficiently. With whole live foods, our bodies are able to convert the amino acids to protein to build muscle tissue and regulate metabolism at a much faster rate than it would with processed or cooked foods.

So, what does this mean for you?

Well, the more live foods you incorporate into your diet, the more differences you’ll see in your digestion, energy levels, your vitality, and your weight! A well-nourished body is a more functional body that doesn’t hang onto fat and can more efficiently lose weight.

To start feeling the difference with a live, whole foods diet, try converting your lifestyle to 80% whole, unprocessed foods. Try avoiding processed foods and things that come in a box or bag, as these products tend to be loaded with added sugars. These changes will create a noticeable difference in your energy levels, cognitive abilities, and your waistline!
