We are three weeks into the new year, and as your friend, allow me to ask– how's it going? Are you still on track for the things you planned out for yourself at the beginning of the new year, or are things already not shaping up to look the way you’d hoped? If you’re off track, perhaps you need to adjust your mindset and then your schedule to accommodate the new things you’ve chosen for yourself. Here are a few things you can do to get your goals back on track!
1. Identify your priorities. Life is FULL of urgent little matters that often feel like huge matters popping up to steal our attention. Identify your priorities. Write them out and get them on your schedule. It’s the first step to avoiding wasted time.
2. Put your blinders on. Once you’ve identified your priorities, each time something pops up unexpectedly to avert your attention (app alerts, texts, phone calls), teach yourself not to address it right away until you’ve finished your prioritized activity. Put that alert on a to-do list for later if you’re worried you’ll forget. If you are a person who gets a lot of these pop-up distractions, perhaps you will want to schedule a time to deal with them all in a one-hour block each day on your calendar.
3. Strive for progress, not perfection. It takes time and intention to make lasting change. If you pursue perfection you may be apt to quit if you get distracted or get off track. Expect that you won’t nail it right out of the gate, but celebrate every step forward that you take in creating new habits and making your priorities stick.Teach yourself to assess how you’re doing as you near the end of every month, and you’ll be way more apt to finish the year having made great progress in implementing your new goals!
Helping you live your great Lifestory!
